Jahar is falling to ruin after the Great Divide. The last Divinity had perished years ago, and magic is spread scarce. Stricken with plague and at the brink of war, Jahar's king sends a highly trained assassin to the neighboring kingdom of Askia to become a spy within royal grounds. His mission is to report all aspects of war plans and lead them astray, just enough so that Jahar may successfully infiltrate and obtain the kingdom's most prized resource--a healing crystal hidden somewhere deep within the palace. All is well until the assassin meets the queen's Captain of the Guard, an unrelenting busybody of a woman who may potentially ruin everything. Utterly vexed upon this stranger's sudden appearance, the Captain of the guard makes it her mission to find out who he truly is and what he wants. She's determined to find proof he is anything but loyal to her king and queen. He's unnecessarily sarcastic and witty and seems to always be in places he shouldn't. But the more she investigates, the more she realizes the truth between their two kingdoms has yet to be unraveled.
