In the land of Lhor, dark forces are beginning to stir. Jamie Wyndwood has lived a modest life in the little hamlet of Rivermouth, trapping and trading. However, when unexpected tragedies put the townsfolk at risk, he sets off with his best friend on a dangerous journey to the capitol to seek help. What begins as a rescue mission soon becomes a struggle to survive in which Jamie and his people must fight to find their place in an unforgiving world. Under threat of war and the resurgence an ancient, mysterious power, nobody is safe.

"The Keeping of the Light" is an epic fantasy adventure told from multiple points of view, spanning the vast and mythical realm of Lhor. This story shares the same universe as my other fantasy series (The Everwander Chronicles) but is set in a different part of the world, at a later point in time. This is a tale that I've been planning, writing, editing, and rewriting for over 10 years, and I am now very anxious to share it with the world.

In a kingdom where legends shape beliefs and fears, an ancient prophecy whispers of the return of the Devourer, an entity capable of reducing one of the five kingdoms to ashes, spreading death and destruction across the world. Only the kingdom bearing the Morning Star could hope to appease this devastating force. This legend, long relegated to the tales of the White Temple, comes to life on a winter night when the full moon, at its zenith, illuminates the birth of a strange child. Astral, so named for his eyes that shine like stars, is found by Virion, the leader of an isolated village in the vast Nightblade Forest. Despite the villagers' distrust, who see him as a harbinger of doom, Astral is adopted by Virion, who refuses to abandon him to his fate. At the same time, in the light-drenched capital, a princess is born. Liana Heliore, named by her father, King Armand, is immediately recognized as the child of light, destined to guide the kingdom toward an era of peace and prosperity. A sacred pact is formed when a luminous raptor, transcending the boundaries of the material world, seals a mystical bond with the young princess. Thus begins the story of Astral and Liana, two children born under opposing stars, whose destinies are inextricably linked. While one bears the mark of darkness and storm, the other embodies the hope of a kingdom. Their lives, marked by mystical forces and ancient prophecies, intertwine to upend the balance of the world.

Muus is only a thrall, a chattel without rights, but he knows the small, blue shard he picked up belongs to him alone. His commonsense saves their lives from cold and starvation. Kjelle, heir to the Lord of a rich mininghold, is spoiled, and covetous of his thrall's tantalizing find. His greed causes an avalanche that leaves both young men marooned on an icy mountain slope. Birthe, young wisewoman and huntress, mother of baby boy Búi, is brave and clever. She knows her way through the snowy wilderness of the Norden and her songs are filled with magic. Now the three young people are bound together on a danger-laden journey to a lost and burning land, where Muus needs to connect the skyshard to the Kalmanir, the standing stone that is the world's wellspring of all magic. The Kalmanir's time is almost up and it urgently needs to be replenished before the magic of Gods and men runs out. The two boys have to learn to trust each other, for all around them, enemies abound. Rebels threaten both the kingdom and Kjelle's holding, and a tribe of mad idolaters is trying to recall the banned primordial Old Gods. Even more imminent is Muus' danger, for it comes from nearby, from the shard itself. An action-packed adventure in a snowy land full of betrayal, rebellion and danger.
