On a midnight trip to her town's most haunted and dangerous road gone wrong, Ruby Diaz gets in a brutal car crash that takes the lives of five of her closest friends and nearly her own. Except she is offered a second chance to be reborn a vampire. Thrust into this new world, a rare and deadly power releases from deep inside of her.
   This power draws the attention of alluring and dangerous Orpheus, the lord of the Vampires. He wants her part of his army in a war against the Shadows, a cult of lesser vampires who, with a single drop of blood, can condemn one's soul to Hell. Ruby finds herself drawn to him and the darkness inside of him that is a lot like her own.  
     As the danger of the Shadows increases, Ruby must rely on Halle, one of the few survivors from the crash, and Orpheus, whose darkness might be darker than she'd realized. With the weight of the safety of human and vampire souls alike on her shoulders, along with an all-consuming darkness inside of her she can't escape from, who can Ruby truly trust in this world of blood and darkness?
