American Treasure!!!

At the end of Book of Secrets, the world seemed to be Nic Cage's oyster, his own personal puzzle to crack. But the years since have landed him with more mysteries than treasures. First there was the divorce, then he turned up at a rural gas station with no memories of the three months prior. Although the ensuing fainting spells have relegated him to a slightly boring job at the Library of Congress gift shop, he's maintained his love of ciphers and hidden treasure as a high- adrenaline hobby. He figures he can focus on his country's past, since his own refuses to give up its secrets. Soon after his nephew Nick arrives for the summer, Nic's current historical intrigue starts leading him towards a strange, and surprisingly familiar, small town. Is any past really recoverable, and will it satisfy Nic if it is? He's far from the only one with questions: it becomes clear that many of the people who surround him may be far more deeply ensnared in this particular plot than even he is. The answers to these questions might be called gold, and they might be called truth, power, an ending or endlessness. Whichever name one chooses, Nic is far from the only one willing to do nearly anything to get them.
