(Entry for @sciencefiction contest) It has been 20,500 years since we left. It was coming. So we prepared. The space cruiser departed Earth in search of a new hope, a new planet. Of course we failed. Countless worlds were surveyed, but not one could hold human life. So, now we are back. We are home. But this is not the planet we left.

Earth lies in ruins after the war which truly was to end all wars. All those who could afford it, fled the planet into the grand void. Those who could not and were still lucky enough to survive holed up in the few somewhat habitable areas left on the planet. One day however, salvation came from the stars, as the Asmodei descended upon the ruined earth, bearing promises of a new world for mankind to thrive on. A fresh start, to make up for the follies of the past. But nothing works out quite as advertised, does it?
