Being alone? Check. Being afraid? Check. Being abused? Check times 3. Honestly, my life wasn't this bad before, not until I ended in foster care... SIKE! My life was always bad. From the moment I was born, I lived with an abusive father who blamed me for my mother's death, and even I couldn't disagree with him. Here are a few questions I am constantly asked: 'Do I do well in school?' No, are you kidding me? The only subject I'm good at is Visual Arts. 'Do I have a kind and caring family?' No, I don't think I do. 'Do I have anyone who cares about me?' No, I'm a loner and socially awkward. 'Do I have privileges?' No, if you haven't understood the message yet, I live in an abusive household. Now, you might ask if there are any questions the answer is yes. I'll give you some. 'Do I want to die?' Yes, I sometimes do. 'Do I feel alone in this world?' Yes, always. 'Do I get a beating every day?' Yes. *** This is Amara Williams, a 13 year-old with average grades and no friends. What happens when her only guardian, her dad, is dead? What happens when she finds out that she has five older brothers who are not only strict and demanding, but also protective assholes? More importantly, what happens when she finds out that she was taught lies from the moment she was born? Follow Amara as she digs deeper into her family history, uncovering the secrets and discovering the lies. ___ ⚠️ Trigger Warning ⚠️ There will be mentions of abuse, r@pe, self harm, death, and many other dark themes. "Nowhere is safe, you know?" Foster homes, orphanages, replacement homes, you name it, Georgia Monroe has never fit in anywhere. From a young age, she has only known that running away and constantly losing track of those that are supposed to care for her, is a way of survival. A way to escape. She hardly knows her real name, as people are constantly trying to change it, whilst all she wants to do is fit in. It's like she knows that she has a real family out there, no matter how many times people try to tell her that they either didn't want her, before explaining all the reasons why no one would want her, or that they all died, and she will never know them. For years, Georgia has tried to decipher the difference between words thrown at her in rage and due to alcohol, but as the years go by, it is harder to see the difference. It's harder not to believe the words. The words of her family not wanting her and that they may be dead, probably as a result of her sake. All she wants, is a pair of safe arms that will take the stress of her shoulders, for a little while. Only, she doesn't know how great of a deal she is asking of those that are her family. She will never understand the depth of the work that her real family has been intertwined, and maybe not living with them, has kept her alive. Has made her a stronger person than she would have been if she had grown up with them from the beginning. Georgia, though it may feel like to her, isn't the only one that has suffered. Though her brothers home may be idealistic and fit for a king and queen in her eyes, it is far from it. Behind all the luxury and money spilling from the walls, it hadn't been like that their entire lives. It wasn't easy to attain such wealth without risking a few lives here and there, including Georgia's, their sister. __________________________________________________________________ Started: 11.10.21 Finished: 21.08.22 Rewritten: 17.08.25 -

"I will get them back for all the pains they have caused me and for locking you up in this prison, I promise", I angrily said to my dad. " You don't pay evil with evil dear",my dad tried to convince me. He is still defending them while they are the cause of his imprisonment. I laughed before answering,"They didn't think of that while I was humiliated, I trusted them father, but they broke my trust, that old girl is dead, the new girl will cause them nothing but pain, tears, problem and heart ache, I swear with my late mum",I angrily said and walked out. My dad was yelling"please forgive them, please don't pay evil with evil" but I ignored him. The pain they caused me can't be forgiven easily. ____________________________________ I am Avery Adebisi.
