A few years have passed since Spyro, the heroic young purple dragon, saved his fellow Dragons from the clutches of Gnasty Gnorc in the Dragon Kingdom. In the Artisans Realm, a Realm in the Dragon Kingdom, months of constant rain have been decimating the area, an extremely depressed Spyro decides that he needs a much needed vacation in Dragon Shores, the number 1 Dragon vacation spot.
Meanwhile, in the far-off Kingdom of Avalar, a female Faun called Elora is desperately trying to rid her once peaceful home of the villainous Riptoc, Ripto, so she calls upon the help of her friends, Hunter the Cheetah and a Mole called the Professor, to open up a portal to the Dragon Realms, their plan is to summon a Dragon, who is strong enough to defeat Ripto, however, there's a cross connection and instead of arriving in Dragon Shores, Spyro is inadvertently transported to Avalar, instead of a fully grown Dragon. Straight after arriving in Avalar, Spyro, Hunter, Elora and the Professor are attacked by Ripto and his minions, Crush and Gulp, Ripto is furious about a Dragon being in Avalar, after a hilarious incident, where Gulp ends up earing his master's sceptre, Ripto storms off with Crush and Gulp, Elora pleads with a reluctant Spyro to rid Avalar of Ripto, only then will Spyro be able to take his much needed vacation in Dragon Shores.
During his new adventures through Avalar, Spyro will meet a lot a colourful new allies and friends, he will also battle a lot of dangerous new enemies throughout Avalar's 3 Home Worlds.
"I thought we were friends, Azriel. I was caught off-guard but you have to know it was forgiven the day it happened." The priestess looked back up to him. His body vibrated from the determination that sparkled in her gaze like the moon reflected in the sea. "It was stupid, Azriel. And unfair to both Elain and myself. But everyone does stupid things."
The Illyrian took a cautious step toward her, afraid she would bolt. "We are friends, Gwyn. I'm sorry. You're right, I was an idiot."
"We both deserve better. But I know you'll be better." She shrugged. His breathing shallowed when she finally pushed away from the door frame and walked to him, stopping just out of his reach.
"I miss you, Azriel."
