Red grew up in a town not like ones you know of. At birth, everyone is assigned a color based on their personality type and aura. Red, being red, struggles to come to grips with her assignment. Being one of the main colors was a big deal and she didn't know if she was suited for it.
In her town of all girls, you can assume everyone was surprised when a boy shows up after breaking a hole in the wall around their town....
