In this story mito is looking to 'teach' someone. This someone is Naruto. Since mito is dead in the original story I will say this the uzumaki clan can visit someone and give their memories of course not all. This all comes at a cost especially when (mito) someone is older then the person who they are giving their memories (naruto). This price can be something like their eyes, their voice, their hearing, their smell, or even touch but the person that is being visited by someone in the past can choose there price.
