A girl named Riley lives in the bad part of Chicago with her brother Eric and alcoholic mom Karen. When she was younger her dad left because of her mom and she hates that he didn't take her and her brother with him. Her not so perfect family doesn't have the perfect home either, they have no water, electricity, heat, food, anything. So to make her money she goes to school, which she is no good at, and when she get of she goes straight to work at the diner where she makes seven dollars an hour if her serves, cooks, and uses her great talent to entertain the customers...singing. The diner has published showers so she takes them there. She sings in the shower and when a major singeing collage professor walks in and hears her, he offers her a collage spot but needs to finish high school with a 4.0 GPA. Will she be able to do it or will she fail?
