No one was quite sure how the once magnificent city had so drastically crumbled, but they didn't care. That was the past. The only thing that mattered was the present and staying alive.

My lungs ached as they tried to pull in clean oxygen, my eyes straining to see through the grey haze. Once the smoke dissipated some, I could see we had appeared in the middle of a road.
