Raison d' etre.

Back then, I'd ask my teacher what such a word meant, only to have her respond with a faint, sweet grin, mumbling in such a mellow tone, "Reason of someone's existence."

For the longest time, I wonder what my raison d' etre is, continuously searching for an answer or a hint as to who I truly am.

And, despite being sappy and clichéd, I would always stare off in the distance and wonder whether I might at least give myself a feeling of purpose.
