The two of us sat on the beach, watching the waves lap at the shore. I glance towards the sky in idle curiosity. My blood runs cold. How had I forgotten?! A New Moon slowly crept its way across the horizon. Not even a sliver of the moon graced us with its light. I scramble to my feet, starting Tommy. "Zara? You good?" I ignore his question as I pinpoint the sun-my stomach drops. We were at least a half hours away from my cottage, and the sun had nearly dipped below the horizon. I had seconds at best.
"Tommy... Tommy, you need to run." He started up at me, confusion filling his eyes. Electrifying pain shot through my body. My knees buckled as I let out a blood-curdling scream. I felt Tommy shift next to me, placing a tentative hand on my shoulder.
"Zara! Zara, what's going on?!" His voice was filled with what I could only imagine being fear. I lift my gaze to meet his. The moment our eyes meet, he scrambles away from me. "What the hell! Why are your eyes changing?!"
I could feel them taking control, trying to lock away my consciousness. As the edges of my vision began to fade, I used the last of my energy to softly plea, "Tommy... run... Please... Irae... They'll hurt you..."
Tommy just stared at me, fear and confusion reflected in his eyes, "What the f**k are you talking about?! There's no one else here!"
My lips move of their own accord, and the voice that passes through them is cold. The echoes of past hosts speaking in unison as Irae snatched control, "Don't forget about me, Toms. Didn't Zara tell you about me? Irae?"
