London England in 1670 was hard on women. It mattered little of birth status when it came to women being unmarried and without a family. For those unfortunate many who were left unwed upon the death of their father; money, title, and possessions were not passed down to their poor daughters. Left penniless and without a title to their names, they were left at the mercy of whoever took over their fathers' estates.
