But the reson that he was there was that he was waiting for the vampire slayer..Buffy. Buffy had four freinds, Willow, Xander, Anya, and Spike. Then theres Buffys sister, Dawn. There was a war, Spike and Anya saved tons of slayers and people while dying as heros. Xander loved Anya and when the war was over he stared into the collapsed town of sunnydale and relized he had lost Anya. This is when Giles knew he had to start over, hed been being a watcher for too long. A watcher trained the Slayer, but in his case slayers.
