Klaus we're together for a thousand years, until after they had a baby. They got into an argument, and he left. They have a baby girl, Hope Mikaelson. When Hope was 8, Caroline wanted somewhere for their baby girl to be happy, and safe. So, she built a school for Hope, and other children that are supernatural.
