Hermione had read this book once.
It talked about how men did not have an internal source of pain, that in order to stay grounded in their power, they inflict pain on others.
Because every being needed to have a tether, one that connected them to the evil of the world.
For women, it lay inside them. The evil is usually dormant- disguised, to be more accurate, channeled into possessive maternal instincts, this fierce need to protect what they see as their own.
Men do not have that, so, as a replacement, they seek it out.
At the time, she didn't truly believe it. But after several firsthand experiences at the feet of abhorrent men, she had no choice but to believe it.
Except, she never expected to spend her nights laying next to a man of that sort.
