It happened in August. One morning she was here, laughing and singing by his side, and the next morning, she was gone. It took a single day for her to disappear, for her to leave an empty space in their apartment and in his heart. Her smell still lingered over the towels of the bathroom, the covers of their bed she had neatly folded, that last morning, still laid untouched on her side, and the flowers she had put in a vase on the dining table were slowly withering away. He sat down at a quiet cafe. Originally, he planned to go straight home, crack open a bottle of soju, and drown the rest of the day in silence. He wasn't sure what stopped him-maybe the weight in his chest or the sudden ache to not be alone-but instead, he found himself walking into this small corner cafe, the smell of roasted beans calming something in him. As he glanced around, his eyes landed on her. A woman sitting by the window, nursing a cup of coffee. Her eyes were puffy, as if she had just cried, and she absentmindedly wiped at her cheeks with her sleeve. There was something fragile about her, yet she looked like she was trying to hold herself together. Without thinking much, he picked up his coffee and changed seats-walking right to the table in front of her. She looked up, startled, her hand frozen mid-sip. Her sniffle echoed between them. "Hey..." he said gently, offering a small smile. "Nice to meet you. I'm Kim Seokjin." He gave her a slight bow, trying not to scare her off. Just something about her sadness felt familiar.
