It's been fifty years since the last siege, yet Nahiri remembers the war that took her sister as if it was yesterday. Now, on the anniversary of her death, one of the sanctuaries is under attack by a dragon once thought to be an ally. Rumor begins to spread like wildfire that the remnants of the Reivers who invaded all those years ago are back and and responsible for the destruction of the sanctuary. Nahiri wouldn't have put any stock in it if there hadn't been other strange incidents of late: a councilman's son missing, assassination attempts on experienced guard members, and the rising discourse amongst refugees. Suspecting it may be more than baseless claims, Nahiri takes it upon herself get to the bottom of it before it's too late.
