"Why can't you just tell me who im dancing with?," the older asked the younger in the midst of their slow waltz, desperately trying to search for her beyond her masquerade.
"You're too used to knowing everything. Would it honestly kill you to have some mystery in your life?," she responds quite sweetly, unknowingly filling an abyss-like cavity in his cold heart that he didn't even know existed. He looks away from her covered face and down to their almost suctioned together bodies.
"An unknown beautiful woman in my arms gliding against me with every step I take is mystery enough."
"I'm sure it is," she breathes before that awful dull ringing of the vintage grandfather clock outside of the venue flooded her ears.
Eyes widening in horror as well as unfortunate realization, the woman snatched herself away from the man, stuttering an apology before picking up her trailing pale pink dress and rushing towards the nearest exit. It looked like something straight out of a movie, complete with the gentleman almost immediately running after her, but not before struggling to process if that woman actually ran from him.
