In the year 2150, the Government (or also known as "The Leaders") has created a set of trials to thin out the population. 10 people over the age of 16 are chosen every month to compete in "The Comings". 

The main goal of The Comings is to be 1 of the 2 survivors.

Davina Usoro and Nico Davis are 2 out of 10 participants (or Neophytes as they are called in this book) will go through many trials and also have to live with the thought that they might not make it to the end. They work together to try to get through the trials while also trying to not give up on friendships and relationships that might come out of their participation.
