Evelyne Smith has lived with the Morgernsterns all her life, or at least since she was two years old. The long years she has spent with them have allowed her to get used to the constant abuse she receives from them -- especially from the family's sons. They all treat her horribly, except for one: Anden, the youngest. Over the course of her life so far, he has always been there to help her with anything, whether it is learning to read or to wrap up some badly broken ribs. Until recently, anyway. He left for college three years ago and she has not seen him since. And yet, she has always felt his presence in her life, and all of that hope is paid off when she receives a letter, an address, and a way out of her current state. She sneaks away, but she never reaches him. Along that path she was recaptured, and then unknowingly set free by a boy and his sister's family. They mean to help her get to Anden, her only love, but on the way, she finds herself get attached... Too attached...
In a life where fear and danger are everywhere, along with new feelings of affection, how will she end up? With Anden in a new life without doubt? With this new boy and his unusual lifestyle? Or, will she lose it all again and be returned to her former owner?
