[2021 Watty Shortlist!] it's 1919 in new york and harry has been back from the western front for months now. his wife, annaliese, barely knows the man she's married. once an optimistic and enthusiastic-about-life person, harry has returned from france nervous and constantly on edge. the problem is, harry feels suffocated. tired of suffering with PTSD for months, harry proposes he and annaliese take a trip in the summer to get a change of scenery. get some air. a vacation (or a belated honeymoon, as annaliese like to bitterly think). they visit two places in the east coast of america, learn about each other, and consider their relationship and where it currently stands. 

this story takes place in 1919, but contains flashbacks to 1916-1918.
