In the Hunger Games, Clove and Cato are given no backstory. Nothing. All the readers know that they hate Katniss Everdeen...why? What is the history of the 74th Hunger Games District 2 Tributes? What happens "behind the scenes"?
Cato Hadley was District 2's golden boy. His family has produced the longest line of Hunger Games Winners, each of the offspring volunteering to risk it all in the games.
Clove Kentwell earned her spot in everything. Her family was poor, desperate for any type of wealth. All Clove wanted was a chance to prove herself, and she did...many many times.
The 74th Annual Hunger Games give the pair something they have wished for their whole life, something they gave hours to train for: Glory. Praise. Eternal Spotlight in the Eyes of the Capitol.
And the odds were in Cato and Cloves favor, them having both attended an elite training Academy, the odds WERE in their favor...until Katniss Everdeen showed up

The Last District
What if district 13 didn't get blown up? And what if there was a 14th district hidden from everyone? District 14 wasn't known to the public, it was kept hidden due to the lack of people. They were told that as soon as their population increased than they would be entered into the Hunger Games. Only they didn't know it would be this soon. Peacekeepers stormed the mediocre town of District 14 where they announced that only one person every year, between the ages of 12 to 18, was to be entered into the Hunger Games. When Marlowe Ordell hears the announcement she fears for the life of her 12 year old brother. There was a 1 in 400 chance that he gets called and he'd be all alone. She never once thought about her own life until she was the one to be called. She runs into a Career Tribute who takes an interest to her. Death. DISCLAIMER: This story will follow the book/movie during the games, but this is also one out of the two books about Clove. In my second book I completely re-write the series to fight how I imagine the world of Panem being. This is a story about Clove and Cato (The tributes from 2), and how life was for them in the District Clove and Cato are training partners at the training center, and get along really well, and become really good friends, but when Cato decided to volunteer to go into The Hunger Games the same year Clove is will they be able to fight each other or will their friendship get in the way of that?? Clove's father turns abusive when her mother dies and when Cato finds out about that, he starts being even more protective of her, and their trainer, the famous Enobaria, finds out about Clove being abused and takes Clove in, and treats her like she is her daughter.
