Konohagakure was the symbol of peace and life. Her children, the plants, the trees, and the people, flourished within her protective walls. But there had been a time when Konohagakure hadn't existed and before that there had only been death. 

Senju Itama had been born during that time, brought into the cruel world where he was expected to look death in the eye and kill, but yearned for life. 

Perhaps the Gods forgave him, perhaps they just wanted to see him suffer. They let him live and he fought, transcending what he had been born as and became a legend that later, the entire Shinobi world would never forget.
