Twenty-one-year-old Zayre Milna had two years left of a five-year sentence serving onboard the starship Neptune as an engineer. She'd learned how to blend in, how to not disclose too much of her rocky past, and how to tell the difference between the starboard and port side of the engine room.

When an attack on Neptune threatens her life, and the life of her crewmates, Zayre comes out as one of the few survivors. With no little idea of what to do next and how to get back to the Space Alliance headquarter's Zayre must rely on the skills she used as a thief: quick wit and street smarts. But she soon finds herself in a complicated political scheme, caught between two warring alliances and a mysterious "Company".

Zayre must quickly learn who she can trust and discover who was responsible for the destruction of the Neptune. Because space is dangerous without the backing of a ship, especially when the secret of Zayre's birth could unravel the very core of the intergalactic system.

Why Is There An Alien Princess In My Room? (ONC 2023 - Alien Romance - Complete) by lisa_london_
26 parts Complete Mature
Tristan is a Quiz Bowl star. Vyrsa is from the stars. But is their interstellar romance written in the stars? *** Following a successful heist on a rival planet, Princess Vyrsa just needs to step through the Portal of Wishes to be brought straight back to her home planet Isola. But when Vyrsa steps through the portal, she finds herself on Earth, a primitive planet in a forgotten corner of the universe, with no means to return home. After having spent the night studying for an upcoming Astronomy test, galaxies, planets, and asteroids are on Tristan Conway's mind as he drifts into dreams. So he's unfazed when a strange glittering woman suddenly appears in his dorm room, convinced she's nothing but a figment of his imagination. When he finds her in his kitchen the next morning, eating his textbooks and befriending his cat, he's not so sure anymore. With no fancy alien tech at her disposal, Vyrsa will need Tristan's help to return to her faraway home planet. Ecstatic to be part of a plot reminiscent of the space movies he loves, Tristan throws himself wholeheartedly into the mission. After studies of possible fuel sources turn into Netflix binging beside her endearing host, Vyrsa's resolve to leave weakens. Maybe she'll just stay with Tristan a little bit longer... Surely nothing bad could come from it? Unless the owners of the artifact she stole figure out where she went and decides to obliterate the whole planet where she's hiding just to punish her, of course. *** This is an ONC Novella using prompt #18: You step through a magical portal thinking it's the way back home, but what you find isn't what you expected. This story is completed.

Wattys 2021 Short List. Shipwrecked on a criminal-infested mining colony, military telepath Reid Kaplan needs answers about the attack on his ship and the unusual alien activity on the planet he's stranded on. Unfortunately, some of those answers might lie in a mind as unique as it is dangerously flawed. Customs inspector Jinsin Koel is used to having guns pointed at her head - but not ones attached to weapon-heavy cyborg insects who consider her lower on the food chain. The Xykeree, past enemies of humanity, should never have been allowed to dock at her home port. And they're just the start of her problems. Throw in a hereditary neurological illness and a secret society of soldiers genetically tailored for psionic combat and she has herself a whole new level of trouble ... the kind that could destroy her personal foundations and imperil billions of lives.
