In the year 2040, millions of young Americans are forced to bear the scars of a genetic disaster wrought on their parents by careless energy companies, who attempted to harvest energy from their bodies' process of cellular respiration. Despite catastrophic levels of genetic disease and disability, this generation of mostly poor people of color take the country and the world by storm. Rain and her university friends are proud to belong to this unique cohort, but everything changes when a sheltered, well-off classmate takes interest in Rain.

Payne & Joie

19 parts Complete

Joie is a failure of science. At least to her father, a once-renowned geneticist, she is. Where Joie was supposed to be tall, she is short. Where her eyes are supposed to be green, they are strange yellow-gold. Where she is supposed to be smart, she is simply... average. Joie is left trying to find meaning through her art and the consequences of being genetically altered. But when a fellow "failure" -a golden-haired boy calling himself Payne- presents evidence of others like her, Joie knows she cannot stand and wait around for her father to come back any longer. Especially when her father's actions go too far. UPDATED EVERY DAY Instagram: RoseVincentWrites
