The story is inspired by the story of Sonic Forces, except it has the Mario cast instead of the Sonic cast. Bowser has taken over 99% of the world, and Mario and his friends have to stop his evil plans, and take back the world from his reign. Bowser isn't alone this time around, he is joined up by his legion of villains consisting of his son Bowser Jr., Fawful, Princess Shroob, King Boo, King Bob-Omb, Petey Piranha, the Wario Bros, and an entirely new villain. Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Peach form an entire army of their own called The Resistance by contacting people such as Daisy, Rosalina, Donkey Kong, and so forth to combat against Bowser and his control.

But it seems that there was another reason why Kate had to understand her powers. A reason why she forgot her past and why she has her powers. A reason why she was brought to Mario and Sonic's world. A reason that endangered her, and has now put Mario, Sonic, and their friends into danger as well. And it's not like Bowser, Eggman, or any of their schemes. Two years after the defeat of King Bowser, Mario now is a respected and loved hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. To release some stress, he takes Princess Peach on a vacation to Brooklyn so he can help her relive her dream of visiting the Human World. However, the heroes cut their vacation short after getting a disturbance in the kingdom. Now, Mario, Luigi, and company have to team up with a cool blue hedgehog, a space princess, and her son to save the universe from an evil goddess bent on summoning the Dark Star and bringing about the end of days. All of the characters belong to Nintendo and Sega except for Rohan, Discordia, Audrey, Captain Lardbutt, Aeron, and Atlas who are completely original characters!
