All must die . . . except one.

Victoria, an apathetic assassin who undervalues emotions, is chosen to be their village's representative in the Annual Warrior Selection. An event in which she must eliminate her fellow players in order to win.

Despite her origins unknown, she steps into the challenge and has already claimed herself the winner even before it started. It's obvious, actually. Even the city people knows.

But along the way, she stumbles upon someone who gave her an unexpected gift, an instrument that somehow made her value human lives more.

Her growing conscience and her fear of dying, which of these two would prevail?

And as a lot of events happen abruptly, will she still be able to survive and be the new warrior?

"Previously known as... Scarletstroke: Girl assassin" * No hesitation * No killing of children * No killing of innocent people * No emotions * And defenitely, NO falling in love ~ Those are the main rules code named Scarletstroke, former assassin Scarlett Gonzales lives by. She is a highly-trained, highly-precise and highly-dangerous killer who considers herself the same as any other businesswoman, doing 'just her job' and convincing herself that she is dealing with 'just her target' rather than a person. She succeeds in contract killing better than any known assassin that ever existed and successfully ignores all feelings or emotions, knowing that they tend to make the "job" not go as planned. So when a new contract comes in and the mark is a certain gang leader that caught Scarlett's eye, she couldn't resist venturing deeper into a world filled with illegal activities on a personal mission to find out why he has a price on his head. Although, what she finds in that world isn't quite what she expected. Now, torn between duty and passion, Scarlett must decide if she pulls the trigger or if she becomes the target herself? Who knows, maybe he might be the answer to her deepest desires. Because her next target: Cayden Carlisle. +++ The culprit took in a deep, calming breath. "You may as well shoot me now, but just know that I am still going to kiss you." By the time he grabbed her waist with one hand and her wrist, connecting to the hand holding the gun, with the other... she was lost. Completely gone. She never stood a chance. His smell, his mouth, his soft growling noises. They were more than enough to disarm her. "I finally figured something out about you." He whispered, pulling her closer, trying to meld every part of her to him. "You display all your emotions through body language. In this case, your hand is betraying your mask." Every word of his was chosen for maximum impact. No wasted syllables, no extra breaths. Just facts.

What happens when death is not the end? For one assassin, it wasn't. Now, in order to die, he must continue to kill. ⭐2020 Ambassador Pick⭐ ⭐2020 ONC Shortlister⭐ ⭐2020 ONC Honorable Mention⭐ The Sharded Blade (Part 1: Ghosts of the Past) was my entry into the 2020 Open Novella Contest (#OpenNovellaContest2020) and is approximately 24k words. It didn't place in the Top 5 and win, but it did receive a very kind Honorable Mention from the Wattpad Ambassadors who ran the contest. I am deeply thankful for all of you who read and enjoyed this story. Parts 2 and 3 (turning this into an entire novel length story) are currently being worked on. This story is based on the following two prompts ... with some liberties taken: 4. When something tragic happens, it's often said we lose a piece of ourselves. How far would you go to find these lost parts of yourself in order to be whole again? 45. You are possessed by a demon. The only way to cast it out is to kill 7 people - each representing one of the 7 virtues.
