Alexander witness so many deaths the day of the hurricane. It did more than suck up his town but any confidence and stability was taken as well. Now he was just a shell of who he once was. When he was brought to America by the foster system, the Washington's took him in. Alex is anxious and heavily suicidal till he meets John Lauren's, a boy who reacts to anything with violence, seems to have his own issues as well. Could the two help each other through their trauma?

George and Martha are incredibly kind and willing to do anything for Alex, but Alex finds it difficult to trust them. He worries that they will become angry with him and throw him out the way the rest of his foster parents did. He finds himself growing more and more depressed and angry, and nothing the Washingtons do can make him feel better. Alex finds himself desparate for acceptance, and ends up in a tumultuous friendship with none other than John Laurens, a gay boy rebelling against his homophobic parents.
