In a future where war has become constant, a pair of elusive scientists have developed Phasing, a scientific breakthrough by which elite soldiers can temporarily become unharmable. Henry Airedale is their greatest success: a strong and fearless fighter and strategist with an especially powerful Phase.

But Henry's world collapses on the day that his Phase fails during a battle, and he is promptly whisked away to a secret base where the failed experiments of the Phase program are kept.
