Childe was supposed to defeat Liyue. Zhongli was supposed to watch out for the Fatui. Their plans were simple, yet neither were able to fulfill them. It took Childe three and a half months to feel at home on the other side of the ocean, and five minutes to be kicked out of a place he had unexpectedly grown fond of. Before returning to Snezhnaya, probably forever, he is offered one last chance to reconnect with Zhongli, who secretly took the boat with him.
The choice he must make is not a simple one: ally with Zhongli and Venti or risk his own life alone.

In his mind, he only cares for battles, wars, and blood. Perhaps the motivation is to protect his family, or, perhaps, the motive is revenge on the creature that lays in the abyss, waiting to strike at any moment. Or perhaps, he wishes to accomplish both and understand the contract set by him and Zhongli years ago despite not remembering the details.
