Hermione went to Hogwarts for a new year, her last year, to repeat the year of learning she lost last year. She and Ron had broken up when she found out he was cheating on her. She thought she would never love again, that is, until a hot new boy shows up at school, joining her school year.

Percy knows he will never recover if he digs deep into himself and find the part that cared and loved Annabeth, so he buried himself deep, and hide the pain. The pain is buried with mountains of sarcasm and jokes, but it's there.
