Harris "Not" Johnson had just been doing his job.

The very thought of it made his stomach flutter and his testicles feel like they were trying to climb back up inside of him.

He had been doing his job last time as well. He had been sent out on what he had thought was a legitimate run, a repo sure but cars were repossessed all the time, and when he had been lit up by the blue and red flashers, then pinned in the spotlight mounted outside the driver's side door of the patrol car, he had been been sure it must have been a misunderstanding.

He was just doing his job, he had thought, and everything would be fine because he hadn't done anything wrong.

Well, he hadn't gone to jail, but everything had worked out pretty far from fine.

He could still see the puncture inhis arm from where he had been stabbed with a needle in order to sell his plasma so he could spring for a goddamn pizza to share with his dad.

There was not a thing about this that was fine.

"He's going to do it again," Not mumbled to the empty cell.

The son of a bitch is going to throw me under the bus again, Not thought.

And, he couldn't think of a single thing he could do to stop it from happening.
