"And We have made some of you a trial for others. Will you ˹not then˺ be patient?" The first time I read this ayah in Surah Furqaan, I had no idea it defined my future so clearly. ********** Hafiz Hakimi;- A 26-year-old Nigerian-American who grew up believing those who worshipped something they couldn't see were crazy motherfuckers. But it wasn't like he would go out of his way to tell them his opinion. His life was perfect, a routine of work, party, fuck, sleep, and repeat. His only source of annoyance was the woman whose vagina he popped out of, but even she was very far away from him. Life was good, everything was great. Until one fateful trip to Nigeria, his home country, set off a tornado that wrecked his mundane to pieces. Aliya Suleiman;- A 22-year-old hafiza whose only goal was to finish studying medicine, the devil's course. She only planned to get married after making her first million dollars, a feat her best friend Jasra said was impossible. She wasn't offended of course, because she never planned to get married. And if she did, it would be to someone more pious than her, mature and respectful; indulging. But then the one person she couldn't say no to begged her with tears in her eyes to marry her son. She was the woman who raised her and provided for her mother and her. There was no way she could refuse. It was the worst thing to have ever happened to both of them. The things I knew that were once unethical, were bound to be saintly. The dreams I dreamt once upon a time, seemed to be an epitome of nightmares. The heart I thought I stole long ago, always belonged to someone else. The crimes I have committed all my life, became a handful of lessons that I ought to learn. The world I looked up to once, became a mortal enemy of mine. The family I thought would disown me, fought my battles for me. The life I never imagined I'd live, sadly it became a life I'd rather live than die. Lastly, the guilt I carried in me for the each and every second of my living, was a poison spreading and gradually banishing everything around me. Clearly, I was bounded by the past! Never have I imagined for the galaxy of guilt in me to steadily transform into a matter of great; Love. No, it wasn't for my dead sister, or for the woman I once claimed to love, or for my money-grubbing father, or even for the woman who was destined for me. Majestically, it was for Someone who I never ever thought it would be for; My Maker. I don't know who made him angry again but that was the first time he asked something from me other than the work. But the question was how can i calm him down? I averted my eyes to the floor because his gaze was very intense, piercing my every core with his hardcore death glare. He stood up from his chair making his way towards me as a predator towards his prey. My breath hitched in my throat with fear engulfing me slowly. "How"? I finally dared my voice out and as usual my voice came out low and meak. He stopped a step away from me as i smelled his minty cologne in my nostrils which every time overpower my senses to think properly. "Kiss me" I snapped my head towards him as my eyes widened in response. Is he for real? ✨✨✨ For her, he was her husband, her family after the death of her parents, after the betrayal of her family but For him, She was the burden from his parents, A mere responsibility. She don't love him but still there was a spark of attraction towards him as he was her rightfully married HUSBAND. He disliked her but there was one rule in his life.What was his, Will always remain His. Doesn't matter how much he dislike her, what matters to him was, she has his name and that makes her, HIS. His WIFE. ✨ Two confused souls living in the same roof, same room yet so far. Will they ever be together? ✨ Both were like a closed book. Will they ever try to open up to eachother?
