"Violet! Your letter came in!" my mom screamed from downstairs. Oh my God. I applied for a foreign exchange program to Australia and my results must have come in. I run downstairs, frantically looking for my mom. She hands my the letter and I bite on my lip, hard enough to cause plenty of pain and possibly draw blood, and I open the letter slowly. I put it to my chest and look at my mother, her eyes hopeful and expectant. "No matter what that letter says, it doesn't define you. If you get the scholarship to study abroad for your sophomore year of high school, I'm proud. If not, I'm very proud of you still and I'll be able to be with you for your sophomore year. This is an important year." I nod and look at the letter, and smile. "Congratulations Miss Violet King, your flight departs July 22nd 2011. Looks like I'm going to Australia mom!"

"Why Nora? Why did you leave?" He asked. "Why did you disappear with no goodbye or see you later, or even a note explaining everything or even a phone call from you once you got to where you left to?" I didn't answer right away. I didn't know how to explain this to him, and having his new friends around made it all the harder. I knew I had to think carefully about my answer, so I wouldn't give too much away. Just like some things were better left unsaid, there were also those things that could only be said at the right moment, so as not to ruin everything. I had to choose my words carefully and be sure to not get angry like he was trying to make me. I hate to admit it, but he still knew me better than I knew myself. And that meant that he knew that if he angered me enough, everything I was hiding would come spilling out. And that...that couldn't happen. After all, I've hardly given her an explanation regarding it and she deserves that at the very least.
