He was upon me immediately.

"Don't tell me you didn't miss me," he whispered, his breath hot against my ear, his fingers caressing my neck.

I gritted my teeth, trying to look for the previously disintegrated resolve that I knew was inside of me. "Get away from me," I said calmly, my eyes still closed but my tone hard.

"Come on, Bella," he coaxed, and that nickname made me shudder - in fear or longing, I couldn't decipher. "Don't be like that."

I pressed my palms against his chest, trying and failing to push him away from me even an inch.

"I missed you so much," he continued, his voice going low, almost baritone. "I missed seeing you. Smelling you. Touching you. Don't you understand?"

When Isabella D'Angelo escaped her psychotic husband four years ago to raise their son on her own, she thought that was the last she'd see of him. But when her life as a single mom finally starts to settle, her world is thrown into an upheaval upon the news that her ex-husband has been released from prison.
