Dylan Castro is an orphaned farmhand struggling to survive the life of a peasant. His grandmother is ill and slowly dying. His friend Targan is a dullard who wishes his grandma death. And his shortage of food and coins certainly isn't helping.
    Then Dylan's eye catches sight of a precious blue gem in Madam Timberwall's collection. She tells him the gem is said to be able to change one's destiny. Dylan isn't sure what she means by this but he accepts the gorgeous stone anyway. 
  Later at home, Dylan hear something strange in the kitchen. He gets up and what he is met with will forever change his life. Now Dylan is flown over land and taken to the Kingdom of Cairnholm, a place where mischief and mayhem bares no leash.
 With the struggle of being chosen and the fate of the world in his hands, Dylan finds it hard to fit in to this new luxurious life. Through the smoke and mirrors of love, power, and friendship, he isn't sure if he can or will save the world...
  But he still must try, right?

"Just my luck," she thought. "I don't know how I'm going to get out of this one! The enemy is all around me!" Then she glanced over at Brandon who was still lying by the fire.
