A series of diary entries written by my half-OC character, Tomoe. Some of you may immediately recognise the name, Tomoe Gozen. This is the famous woman warrior from Japan who fought and died many centuries ago. What I am doing is twisting the original myth to moderate lengths, while still keeping the original character intact, not just keeping the name. I'll talk more about it, but for now, all you need to know is:
- She was born in Tsushima, just like J. Sakai from last year's Ghost of Tsushima
- She watched her parents horribly die as a 7 year old girl in the very first Demon attack in 1264 (when demons first emerged); everyone in the village was violently slaughtered
- The Mongols have not arrived yet; they will arrive in 1274 when Tomoe is 17 years old...
- Tomoe remembers this one particular face which is forever engraved in her psyche. It was the most terrifying face she'd ever seen: It was the face of an Oni, a name she would come to learn in many many years.
- She ran away to be raised by a retired woman warrior known only as Yuna
- Yuna has been training her ever since she came to her
- Tomoe is not/does not make herself conventionally attractive as you would expect. Instead she does not worry one bit about how she looks; she only cares about surviving.
Had her mother remained alive, she would've brought her up to embrace the feminine practises of her time. But, since Yuna began raising her, the old woman taught her to give up worrying about her misplaced body hair and her "unfeminine face", and to instead devote all of her being to improving her strength and combat skill. "Demons don't care about what you look like. They'll still slit your belly open and feed you your own stomach."
- Tomoe is asexual; she still feels sexual urges, but does not feel much sexual attraction to others.
