Peace has settled over the clans for many months. They have grown in size and a medicine cat now lives within StrongClan, ready to help the members of any clan in need. But some cats just can't accept the way the clans live, and a threat grows among the warriors, sowing doubt and distrust among their clanmates. Leaders will fall into the shadows, and a ruthless cat will rise to take their place. It is time for warriors to show where their true loyalties lay.

SpringClan has just came out of the first battle against Maplestar and his rogues, but only just. With many cats she loves injured and almost dead, Birdpaw realizes this is all her fault, with Maplestar and the whole battle. Lost in her grief and self-doubt, the young apprentice goes away from the Clan to have time by herself, and learns some very important lessons.

The Clans are progressively becoming a chaotic mess, and it's only a matter of time until the Clans buckle and fall, unless some cat can take hold of the reins and keep the Clans together, at least long enough for guidance from StarClan. Echoberry hopes and prays to her ancestors constantly, only wanting the best for every cat. Enough sorrow has already fallen upon ThunderClan. Swiftlake fears for the future of her Clan, knowing that if RiverClan has a shred of hope left, it fell on her and her alone. No matter how safe Roselight is, no matter how secure WindClan is, Roselight can't stop looking over her shoulder, fearing she'd see those cold, empty, yellow eyes once again.
