two by two

A small pair of ears pop out, then two bright eyes look down at him.

"mew"

Oh. A kitten. A kitten was stuck on the ledge above his window.

Dumbfounded, all he can do is say "How did you even...", but the tiny creature recoils and stares at him with terror. He tilts back, then gravity pushes him down and he grabs onto the window frame, gasping for balance. The kitten looks down at him and makes a step. George looks towards the street, and then the urgency of the situation starts settling in his head. There was a kitten, stuck on a ledge 3 stories up from the ground, and it was moving...

Or, George rescues a kitten, and it's a bit too familiar.
