When Lily Gray commits suicide someone loses a piece of their soul. You do not know who it is, and will not until the writer sees fit. Because the writer is the one who lost that piece. They don't want it found, they just want to finish the story for her. Lily knew all the dark parts of the writer, whereas the writer knew next to nothing about Lily. That becomes even more obvious as the writer discovers things in the diaries left to them that they never would have imagined.
