As a young muslimah, that too from a South-East Asian background, marriage can be a very difficult topic to talk about in front of your parents. Because often times, culture is given preference over religion, religion is also misinterpreted as culture because of the lack of knowledge and education. A beautiful bond that is a Sunnah, then becomes the worst nightmare for her. The constant fear of being pushed to marry someone from your family or of your parents' choice is traumatising. It feels unfair, because where did my rights to choose go? The rights that Allah gave me? This, is a story of that young muslimah struggling to ace her studies, build a career, take care of her family, socialise, all while living with this big fear..
