They live beneath their so-called enemy, in what they call The Below. Most of them have not seen what is Above, and those that have are forced to forget. Once a year, someone is chosen to go Above, live there for six months, with almost no knowledge of the Outside. They are sent to the unknown, up to the enemy's world, and go undercover, gather as much information about their "enemy" before the time is up. What seems easy for us is very difficult for them, they are smart, but not when it comes to life. Most live, but some die in foolish ways. When Brooke is the youngest ever to be chosen to go Above, everything starts to change and she begins to wonder, why are they doing this? What is the point? And most of all: Who is the real enemy?
