This story's metanarrative began when a good friend of mine at the time had shared a document with a number of close friends, under the expectation of them collaborating to construct a creative piece. The founding writing, only a paragraph and written by that friend, was of a single undefined character narrating their spooky and memey adventure. I made it more personal by adding character stand-ins for my friends and acquaintances, named after fruits or vegetables. That never happened, except with that friend who started the original document to me, to a small extent.
