Victoria Cross, a grad school dropout (or rather, flunk out), is struggling to help support her foster mother, Anna, the woman who sacrificed everything to make sure she had a better life. Feeling trapped in her bartending job at a popular night club, and a seemingly endless loop of bad decisions while the rest of the world moves on and up without her, Victoria is anxious to make something of herself.

Then one night, a chance encounter with Tom, Russian criminal looking for a way out, alters the course of her life forever. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Northern Hemisphere, Katya is fighting a battle of her own…one that she’s sure to lose.
