Freda and Gunnvor lead normal lives in Hollowvale but all that changes when Freda encounters the mysterious white dragon that haunts her dreams. Upon realizing she's seen the dragon before, and from the influence of two unexpected friends, Freda decides to finally break the one rule she never has. She decides to ride a dragon. However as the secrets begin to pile up, the trust between Frida and her friends grows thin. Little time passes before Gunnvor discovers the dragon, but because of this she then ends up wanting her own. The two friends shared the burden of keeping the secret together, but it seems their dangerous pastime is beginning to put both their own and their new friends' villages in danger. When tragedy strikes and war breaks loose, the girls have to pick sides. The dragons or their people. But Freda can only make one choice. Her heart is for her dragon, and this drives a stake through Freda's relationship with her father, Ivar, chief Hollowvalle.
