June Mirage Quill-Wood, is a relatively normal 13 year old teenage girl, besides being at little over the average smart, but when she gets powers, her life swirls out of control. She turns into a superhero, and tries to balance her double life, trying to be a good person, and superhero while keeping both apart.

But it gets harder and harder as her being a new superhero causes a lot of buzz, as the only known heroes are the famed Defenders, while most of the rest who have superpowers are villains. Which means she's of mistaken as the villain or vigilante.
As well as her friend James Turner, obsessed with superheroes, comic books and mystery, takes out red yarn to find her alter ego's secret identity, with countless others.

Wanting to understand why a villain becomes a villain before crucifying them, as is the tradition, he befriends Jade, the only student at the school who knows a villain personally. Jade, Belladonna's best friend since childhood, is Belladonna's college roommate. She's always tried to get her friend to see that she could choose her own destiny, but gets nowhere until Hades, another villain in training, comes along. Unfortunately, a villain being friends with a superhero and vise versa is not acceptable. Something has to give if anyone is to live.

Every city has its claim to fame and for the city of Cytropolis it's their superheroes. But unlike the cities of Gotham and Central City, this isn't a good thing. Cytropolis is known far and wide as the city with the clumsiest and least influential superheroes ever. But it never mattered that much since the super villains were just as bad. That is, until recently when the villains decided to smarten up and open a super villain academy to train the newest generation (something that never occurred to the heroes). Luckily for them, Matt Miller has arrived. He may seem like an average, normal (even bordering on boring) seventeen-year-old boy, but when are things ever what they seem?
