Thanks to a bit of serendipity, I remembered I had written an outline for a potential fic. In hindsight, it was really more development work for ideas that later evolved into part of the Groovy Overkills saga. For those of you familiar with that fic, you'll discover that this piece is essentially the birth of original character Jules Cavendish.
I prefer to post completed fics, which is why I'd forgotten about this stream-of-consciousness snippet. That said, it works as a complete story, albeit one that's told rather than shown. This is also a rare find because most of my Overkills work is on a previous laptop that's gone kerplunk. I'm glad I rediscovered The Friend and hope you enjoy it!
