Thanks to a bit of serendipity, I remembered I had written an outline for a potential fic. In hindsight, it was really more development work for ideas that later evolved into part of the Groovy Overkills saga. For those of you familiar with that fic, you'll discover that this piece is essentially the birth of original character Jules Cavendish.
I prefer to post completed fics, which is why I'd forgotten about this stream-of-consciousness snippet. That said, it works as a complete story, albeit one that's told rather than shown. This is also a rare find because most of my Overkills work is on a previous laptop that's gone kerplunk. I'm glad I rediscovered The Friend and hope you enjoy it!

I do not take credit for anything except OCs (original characters), which will be clearly labelled. I'll try to follow the original story but it is written from the point of view of an OC, so a lot of the plot should be fairly original, but I can't take credit for anything that actually happened in the show. Direct crosspost from Ao3 This is an INTENSELY self indulgent prequel for the events of Monster Hunter World following the life of the Commander. Fic takes place from the First Fleet setting out and covers things like the Celestial Pursuit ending up on a mountain, the Scoutflies, the Seeker peacing out, the Research Base crash landing, and some other stuff I'm forgetting, and ends right before the opening sequence of the game. So if you like Monster Hunter, and for some reason you're not here for the monster part (why are we here? Where is the appeal beyond big monster?), we're here together. Ngl, I wrote this because he is 100% my OC's type, and I had brain worms until I wrote it all out. I'm freeeee! The PoV is from the Commander instead of said OC so we get to see more fun things than "oh god he's hot. Oh god I'm gay. Oh god." Instead we get stuff like "Woah cool bugs. Ha ha cute monsters! AH BIG MONSTER!" You're welcome. Fun fact: I played the game in French, so I have ZERO HANDLE on how their dialog sounds in English. *Finger guns and skates off into the sunset* *This is a grammatically LAX fic.
