Chris is scared of everything that goes "bump!" in the night, and moving to New Orleans certainly doesn't help this matter. Things start to become even more sinister when he starts hearing strange sounds and seeing eerie lights from within the bayou next to his mom's new house. 
Then he meets Cau. Cau is a boy whose just as eerie and sinister as Chris's new home, but there's something about him that's alluring. Evidentially Cau feels the same way about Chris, for he 'takes him under his wing' and shows him all the "wonders" of New Orleans.  
But something's not right. Chris is starting so feel something towards Cau that he's never felt before... and what's going on in the bayou...? Why does Cau periodically disappear for sometimes days on end? And why has his mother been avoiding him ever since they came here?
